Technisat Skystar2 KuBand switch problem

There are a lot of Technisat Skystar 2 DVB PCI cards that are unable to switch between the both Ku-Bands using universal LNBs (frequencies from 11700 Mhz and up) the reason for most of this problems is a coil that has been damaged due a shortcircuit in the cable (usually). This coil has been replaced by Albert Houwer and write a short document for anybody that wants to do the replacemente. Download the Coil Replacement SkyStar2.PDF file with images and do it yourself.

Thank you to Albert Houwer for providing the documentation

No, you do not need to change the BIOS. Each revision card is usually tied to some hardware differences so if you change your BIOS from rev. C to plain 2.6 quite sure it will not work.

hi ,i am wondering what can be done to prevent the coil from burning.Would adding a cooler fan directly above the coil keep the coil from getting damage.

Hello,

To avoid the coil burn you can not do nothing except take care to no shortcircuit the live (inner cable) and the shield (cable outer part built with a lot of thin cables) while the cable is connected to the SS2 (This is applicable to all DVB cards and receivers).

The other thing to take in care is to not connect a rotor which do not eat more power than the maximun in the card specifications which I think is 500mA, but (and this is a big BUT) take in care that the rotors usually does not eat this power while rotating, but when they starts the rotation they could eat more power like 600mA. Some rotors shows both values in the specs but others only show the "while rotating" power consuption.
